Hydro-ecological Health Evaluation of Downstream Wujiang River
Construction of hydraulic project will bring irreversible influence to basin ecological environment, the river health often deteriorates with engineering construction. Pengshui power station is the tenth cascade development of wujiang river, located in the lower reaches. According to the 20062009 hydro-ecological investigation, using multiindex evaluation method, we assessed the river health before and after impounding. The health degrees of downstream Wujiang River was 0. 78 before impounding, belonging to healthy state; and after impounding it turned to 0. 59, sub-health state. The basin health varied mainly because of the changes of water quality, ecosystem and rivers form. After impounding, the water trophic status had the tendency to turn to mesotrophic level, plankton standing crop increased, the fish population structure changed, rare and special fishes decreased, river was dam blocked, connectivity was reduced, and migratory fish was eaffected deeply. To reduce the damages of the project construction, it is necessary to take corresponding measures to mitigate the influences, and cany on the long-term hydro- ecological monitoring.
