Ictiyoplankton Assemblage Struetures and their Relationship with Environmental Factors in the Yangtze Estuary

In this study, the spatial and temporal sructures of ichthyoplankton assemblages were identified in the Yangtze Estuary and its adjacent sea waters. Seven surveys were conducted during November 1998, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2007 and 2009, respectively. The response of ichthyoplankton assemblage structures to environmental changes was discussed using method of community ecology gradient analysis. In the estuary, Engraulidae, Gobiidae, Salangidae were dominant species in the fish larvae, and Trichiurus lepturus was the most abundant in fish eggs. The three ichthyoplankton assemblage groups were identified with CCA analysis; ① estuarine assemblage dominated by Chaeturichthys stigmatias, ②coastal assemblage dominated by Engraulis japonkus and Stolephorus commersonnii, ③ offshore assemblage dominated by T. lepturus. In the environment factors of the estuary, suspended matters and salinity in surface water were the main factors which influenced the distributions of different assemblages, while sediment from the Yangtze River during rain season into the sea and chlorophyll a were the factors which drived annual variances of ichthyoplankton assemblage distributions.
