Construction of Jianghai Canal for Sustainable Development of Changjiang River Basin
Being demanded by rapid development of Changjiang River economic zone, economic integration of Changjiang River delta, implementation of Jiangsu provincial government s development strategy for river/sea coastal areas, it is required to build Canal from Changjiang River to the sea ( named by Jianghai Canal) by taking geographical advantages of Nantong city, which is located at front of river and sea with abundant fresh water sources. The establishment of the canal has great significance on economic and social development of Jiangsu province and Changjiang River basin. The article analyzes significance, construction feasibility and design concept of Jianghai Canal project from some factors, such as improvement of Chinas comprehensive traffic transportation system, construction of Shanghai International Shipping Center, development of central and northern areas of Jiangsu province, implementation of river/sea combined transport strategy, sustainable economic and social development in Changjiang River basin.
