Preliminary Study on Regulation Methods and Evolution Patterns of Jiangsu Reach in Lower Yangtze River
Jiangsu reach of lower Yangtze River is lotus rhizome nodes type of bifurcation, influenced by tides and runoff, hydrodynamic condition is complex, riverbeds fine sediments are easily movably. Below Jiangyin section, the watercource is widened with many shoals and beaches. In history Jiangsu reach showed developing and decaying alternate branches each other, the recent research results about evolution characteristics of different bifurcate reaches with water and sediment interaction have indicated that it tends to be stable after years of regulation control works and brings a good foundation for flooding-proof and banks safety. With the fast economic development of both sides, high level regulation works are needed by the socioeconomic development. In this paper, numerical and physical models are applied to study the shoals and beaches utilization, hydrodynamic changes as tidal wave transformation by deep water channel regulation of bifurcate reaches, tidal volume variations and bifurcated flow adjustment et al. , with Chengtong reach as an example. The evolution characters of different stretches are given with regulation experience and scientific explanations and illustrations about river exploitation and utilization of Jiangsu reach. The regulation rules of shoals and beaches stabilization of bifurcate reach, the control of diversion regime, protection of flow thrust sections, are suggested about Jiangsu reach in lower Yangtze River. Preliminary study on regulation methods of different reaches is brought up in combination with the Yangtze estuary 12. 5m deepwater channel s stretching up to Nanjing.
