OPPORTUNITIES FOR REPLACEMENT OF FOSSIL FUELS WITH RENEWABLE SOURCES GLOBALLY

First there will be an overview over regional differences between 213 countries divided into low income, middle income and high income countries distributed on seven geographical regions. Energy use, GDP and cereal yields are compared, and the potential production of biomass in agriculture and forestry is estimated from best practice for different type of crops and regions. Factors like amount of fertilizer per ha is discussed, as well as impact of different species/clones on the total biomass productivity. The productivity and conditions for a number of crops are discussed. An overall global energy balance is presented where biomass and other renewable energy resources like wind, solar and hydro power is compared to consumption today and potentially in the future. Balancing electric power in time using batteries and pump power as well as economic incentives to achieve reduction of power consumption when it is difficult to deliver is also addressed, using smart grids.
