POLY(ARYL SULFONE BENZIMIDAZOLE) AND ITS COPOLYMERS FOR HIGH TEMPERATURE MEMBRANE ELECTROLYTES OF FUEL CELLS
Proton exchange membranes operating at temperatures above 100°C have in recent years attracted much attention as the key material of fuel cells 1,2. An effective approach, among many others, is the development of acid-base polymer membranes 1, and a breakthrough was achieved when polybenzimidazole (PBI) was first proposed for preparing PA doped membranes 3. Since then phosphoric acid doped PBI membranes and related Fuel cells technologies have been systematically characterized and successfully developed. Other PA doped polymers based on incorporation of ionic liquids or alkyl imidazoles 4 have recently been suggested as high temperature electrolytes as well.
