Study on an novel zinc/vanadium redox flow battery
The novel Zinc/vanadium redox flow battery (ZVB) is proposed in the paper. The ZVB which employs the VO2 +/VO2* redox couple in the positive half-cell and the Zn/Zn2+ redox couple in the negative half-cell. The equilibrium potentials of positive and negative reactions are 1.0 V and -0.76 V versus the reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE), respectively. Therefore, an open circuit voltage of 1.76 V can be obtained. The performance of the batteries is carried out by using constant current charge / discharge technique. Typically, the coulombic efficiency of above 96% and the energy efficiency of about 70% were obtained at the current density of 20 mA /cm2.
