BIOMASS TO BIODIESEL
Biodiesel is an excellent renewable energy carrier currently being produced from vegetable oil. However, large-scale biodiesel production remains challenge because of limited supply of oil plant-based feedstocks. On the other hand, carbohydrates form lignocellulosic biomass are the most abundant renewable resources. In this context, it is pivotal to develop new technologies for the conversion of carbohydrates into biofuel products, such as biodiesel, with similar properties to fossil fuel. As the biomass-derived carbohydrate feedstock features the presence of inhibitory compounds and the copresence of hexoses and pentoses, most of current conversion technologies remain inefficient and costprohibitive.
