FUEL TEMPERATURE AND EXHAUST EMISSIONS IN SPARK IGNITION ENGINES
Spark ignition engine performance characteristics and exhaust emissions depend on many engine operating parameters. One of these parameters is fuel-air charge temperature. Decrease in the charge temperature causes an increase in the volumetric efficiency thus an increase in the engine performance, and a decrease in the exhaust emissions like nitrogen oxides (NOx). Some devices like intercooler are used to decrease the charge temperature by cooling the intake air. Exhaust gas recirculation systems use a gas cooler to decrease the recirculated gas temperature.
