PREPARATION AND ELECTROCHEMICAL PERFORMANCE OF FeFx AS CATHODE MATERIAL FOR LITHIUM-ION BATTERIES

Li-ion batteries represent the most advanced battery technology with the highest specific energy among all the rechargeable batteries currently commercialized, but they are still difficult to satisfy the fastgrowing demand for lightweight and high-capacity electrical storage, such as in future wireless communications, electric vehicles, or power storage from renewable energy resources. As the new cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries, metal fluorides based on the mechanism of reversible conversion reaction and multi-electron reactions instead of the traditional intercalation/extraction cathode materials. Accordingly, these materials have much higher theoretic energy density than traditional intercalation/extraction cathode materials. Therefore, metal fluoride cathode materials have caught more and more attention recently.
