Estimation of Energy saving of Commercial building by Living wall and green facade in Sub-tropical climate of Australia
This paper investigates energy saving of commercial building by Living wall and Green facade systems based on Envelope Thermal Transfer Value (ETTV) in Sub-tropical climate of Australia. Various parameters of buildings envelopes and relevant heat gain parameters such as solar factor, shading coefficient, etc. have been accumulated to analyze the heat gain of commercial building based on ETTV. Real life building envelope and air-conditioned load data for subtropical climate zone of Australia have been collected and used in this analysis. A mathematical expression based on ETTV has been used for heat gain measurement of commercial building and the calculated air-conditioned load has been compared with collected real life data and standard software value. Temperature data of living wall system comprised of Australian native plants has been collected from an existing experimental setup in Sub-tropical climate. Then, equivalent temperature of living wall system and shading coefficient of plants in green facade system have been included in mathematical equation and in graphical analysis. To minimize the airconditioned load of commercial building, therefore to minimize the heat gain of commercial building, an analysis of building heat gain reduction by Living wall and Green facade system has been performed. Overall, cooling energy performance of commercial building before and after green facade and living wall application has been examined.
