C02 CAPTURE WITH Pd/CERAMIC COMPOSITE MEMBRANES IN POWER GENERATION
Pd membranes in combination with water gas shift (WGS) reactors project as the most cost and energy efficient technology for CO2 capture in natural gas or coal-fired power stations to date 1. However, knowledge is still sparse about the membrane and separator/reactor system life time under practical CO2 capture conditions. Hence, such studies are a focal point of the ongoing EU FP7 project CACHET II on Carbon Capture and Hydrogen Production with Membranes 2. The tubular membranes used in this project consist of 5-10 m thick Pd layers which we prepared by electroless plating on ceramic membranes. Two different sealing technologies have been used for mounting these composite membranes into test facilities, I.e. Graphite seals from ECN (NL) and direct ceramic-to-metal connections engineered at the Institute of Metal Research (CAS, Shenyang, China).
