On the Thermodynamic and Physical properties of Ionic Melts and on Their Role in Ferrous and Nonferrous Metals Production Processes
In this paper the interconnection of acid-base properties and the structure of ionic melts with their thermodynamic and physical properties, thermodynamics of chemical interaction between molten metals and ionic melts especially slag-metal reactions, removal of impurities from metals and alloys are generally discussed on the base of industrial experience, results of equilibrium investigations and thermodynamic calculations. Some comments on the physical and physicochemical properties of slags and their role are included in the presentation. Examples from iron and steelmaking and sulfide smelting processes with contributing results of experimental research are also presented in the context with the treatment of general thermodynamic and physical properties and behavior of slags.
