E-government and citizen attitude towards local government in China: Transparency and capacity in service delivery
In China, the efforts to increase the effectiveness of public service delivery and thus the local government capacity of the “service-oriented government have risen in recent years. This article examines the factors that are associated with the level of citizen satisfaction with government transparency and local government capacity in service delivery in China. Specifically, we explore whether e-government enhance the perception of citizen towards their local government. Our analysis indicates that compared to traditional sources of information government website improves citizen’s satisfaction with government transparency. Moreover, citizens’ perception of local government capacity in service delivery enhances also with frequent uses of government website. Our results, however, implies that the two-way communication function of egovernment need to be further developed to fully reap the intended benefits of e-government as a reform strategy towards a service-oriented government in China.
