Corrosion Performance of Aluminized IN 625 and Hastelloy-X in Supercritical Water Condition at 500°C

Aluminide diffusion coatings are applied to two nickel-based alloys, Inconol 625 and Hastelloy-X, todetermine the feasibility of coating out of core materials for corrosion resistance. Coated, uncoated andheat treated Hastelloy-X as well as coated and un-coated IN 625 are tested for 900 hours in SCW (25MPa, 500 °C). Weight change, SEM and EDS analysis are used to assess the performance of eachsample. After 900 hours of SCW exposure, it is concluded that both aluminized IN 625 and Hastelloy Xhave the least corrosion. The heat treated Hastelloy-X sample suffered high weight loss and signs ofcorrosion.
