PROGRESS ON THE INSULATED FUEL CHANNEL EXPERIMENTS FOR THE CANADIAN SUPERCRITICAL WATER REACTOR

The High Efficiency Channel (HEC) design is being considered as an option for the Canadian Supercritical Water Reactor (SCWR). The current design uses a yittria-stablized zirconia (YSZ) to insulate the pressure tube from coolant that can reach temperatures upwards of 625°C at 25 MPa.This paper presents a description of a small scale experimental facility to study the HEC thermal performance for normal operating and accident conditions, as well as preliminary data from the facility.
