Experiment of Heat transfer to supercritical water flowing in vertical annular channels

An experimental study of heat transfer to supercritical water was performed at XianJiaotong University (XJTU) with a vertical annular tube. The annular test sections wereconstructed with annular gaps of 2mm, and an internal heater of 8-mm outer diameter.Depending on the flow conditions and heat fluxes, two distinctive heat-transfer regimes,referring to as the normal heat transfer and deteriorated heat transfer, have been observed.Comparing to upward flow, the heat transfer coefficient has been increased obviously in thedownward flow at high heat flux. A strong effect of spacer on heat transfer has beenobserved at locations downstream of the device in the annuli whether downward or upwardcondition. The spacer effect impairs the buoyancy effect in low heat flux, but not for highheat flux.
