CHARACTERISTICS ANALYSIS OF SUPERCRITICAL WATER-COOLED REACTOR DURING LOSS OF OFFSITE POWER TRANSIENT

The loss of offsite power is one of the most important transient and security incidents forsupercritical water-cooled reactor with needed analysis. Based on the constructed neutroniccross section library for supercritical water-cooled reactor, the transient simulation programunder coupling condition is established with an overall iteration of two group neutrondiffusion equation and heat-transfer model. When the loss of offsite power occurs, transientanalysis with the followed loss of water flow and the decreased pressure is carried out. Theresults show that, if the offsite power was lost, the flow rate at the inlet of fuel channels woulddrop to zero rapidly, and the maximum cladding temperature is increased. Meanwhile, theslow down of main coolant pump will also lead to the increase of maximum claddingtemperature. Compared the transient characteristics between coupling condition and noncouplingcondition, the increasing amplitude under coupling condition is relatively small, andthe safety criterion could be satisfied if reasonable control mode is put forward. However, thelocation of maximum cladding temperature shows an offset along the opposite direction offluid flowing, so the controlling means should be implemented earlier for effective controlresult.
