CFD SIMULATION OF VERTICAL 7-ELEMENT BUNDLE COOLED WITH SUPERCRITICAL FREON-12
Objective of the current investigation is to assess the capability of a commercial CFD code,ANSYS Fluent v 6.3.26, to predict the fluid flow as well as heat transfer behaviours of supercriticalflow in fuel bundles. To achieve this, a recent experiment on a vertical 7-element bare bundle cooledwith supercritical Freon-12 at the Institute of Physics and Power Engineering (IPPE, Obninsk, Russia)was simulated. A comparative evaluation of the effect of turbulence modelling approaches on thepredicted behaviour of the heated bundle was performed. Overall, the CFD simulations were able topredict with reasonable accuracy the measured sheath temperatures profiles along the length of bundles. It was found that the results were sensitive to the choice of turbulence models as well as to the nearwall treatment approaches.
