Para-Rubber Mixed in the Concrete block for Low Thermal Conductivity and Energy Saving Purpose

This paper aims to study the strength and thermal insulation properties of a rubber mixed in concrete block. Crushed dust to cement is 4:1.Water to cement ratio is 0.40 .The latex with additional nonionic surfactant of 4% (by weight of para-rubber) to cement (P/C) ratios has been varies between 0.025, 0.050 and 0.075 by weight of cement. Concrete sample 30 x30 x25 cm is used to test the thermal conductivity. The concrete block (mixing para rubber) sample is formed manually with size 13 x 25 x14 cm which is tested for water absorption at age 14 days. Then it is tested for compressive and bending strength at age 7, 14 and 28 days. The results of testing showed that the water absorption of concrete block is reduced when latex to cement ratio is higher. When the latex to cement ratio is increased, the bending strength is also increased while the compressive strength is decreased. The normal concrete block has the thermal conductivity values 0.502 watt/m-K. Rubber natural concrete block has the thermal conductivity values about 0.139-0.188 watt/m-K. This means latex from para-rubber could be an admixture to improve concrete block properties thermal insulation for material of building.
