Falling Film Evaporation-A Review and Test Rig Construction

A comprehensive review of falling film evaporation occurring on a horizontal tube and tube bundles is presented. The influencing factors that affect the heat transfer performance on plain single tubes, enhanced tubes and tube bundles, such as flow rate, heat flux, tube type, bundle geometry and so on, have been reviewed. A survey of the developments in heat transfer prediction, and empirical correlations are carried out. It is found that although falling film evaporation has been widely adopted in energy and chemical engineering, the fundamental heat transfer correlations are quite limited in their applicability, and are even contradictory to each other. To have a better understanding of the processes of the formation of a liquid film, and to reveal the reasons responsible for the differences in reported research, an experimental facility for testing the performance of falling film evaporation on single and tube bundle is constructed. This experimental setup is briefly presented.
