Experimental Investigation on Heat Transfer Performance of Top-heated Heat Pipe with Screen Mesh Wick

An experimental study has been carried out to determine the effect of the inclination angle of the top-heated heat pipe, heat load and amount of working fluid charged into the heat pipe on the heat transfer performance of the heat pipe with a screen mesh wick. It was found that, the heat transfer capability decreases significantly as the inclination angle of the heat pipe increases. The thermal resistance of the heat transfer by the heat pipe decreases with increase of heat load. However, the rate of change of the thermal resistance becomes small as heat load increases. And the heat transfer capability increases with increase of heat load. While the amount of working fluid charged into the heat pipe was between 95~145ml, as the amount of working fluid increases, the thermal resistance of the heat pipe does not change drastically, however, when above 155ml the thermal resistance of the heat pipe increases significantly and the heat transfer capability of the heat pipe decreases.
