Alternative Technologies for Natural Gas Storage
Natural gas has steadily emerged as the most favored fossil fuel resource because of its advantages of lower carbon emissions and lower harmful substance emissions. To sustainably exploit, process and consume natural gas, technologies of gas storage, apart from commercialized liquefied natural gas (LNG) and compressed natural gas (CNG), newly rising technologies, such as cold compressed natural gas (CCNG), natural gas hydrates (NGH) and adsorbed natural gas (ANG) have been developed gradually. Characteristics of these technologies have been compared and summarized. Research direction of natural gas storage technology—mild storage conditions and high storage capacity is proposed.
