The Influence of Pore-Structure on Adsorption Capacity of Activated Carbon for Low-Concentration N-butane

Two kinds of activated carbon(AC-1 and AC-2) were selected in the paper for adsorbing a mixture of n-butane and nitrogen gas that was used for simulating the evaporation of oil and industry gas. The breakthrough curves of n-butane on the activated carbons were measured. The influence of BET surface area, pore-structure on the adsorption capacity of activated carbon for low-concentration n-butane were investigated. The results show the adsorption capacity of activated carbon for n-butane is obviously positively-related with its mesopore volume. AC-2 has high percentage of pore volume within the range of 2-5nm and possesses high n-butane adsorbability. The maxium breakthrough adsorption capacity of AC-2 for n-butane can achieve 9.6g/100g.
