A Discussion on Software Development for the Design and Assessment of Lake Water Hypothetical Heat Capacity

The cooling issues nowadays encompass not only human comfort but also energy consumption. Before system implementation, it is necessary to conduct feasibility analysis as a predictable evaluation of the reduction of carbon dioxide, environmental friendliness, built investment recovery, etc. This paper presents the software for selection of cooling and heating source for designing and optimizing ground surface WSHP (water source heat pump) systems. Based on the energy balance theory and model of lake thermal equilibrium, we propose a framework on designing and validating the performance of a supplementary heat source for the ground surface WSHP system. This model was validated by testing statistical data of a lake WSHP project in Shanghai. To evaluate the models applicability, WSHP system simulations were implemented for large space venues. By inputting the natural and built load conditions, the software will generates a report which includes the details of energy saving, thermal capacity of the lake, coefficients of the heat pump and the design parameters of the lake water source heat pump. The application of this software is helpful to improve the design efficiency of WSHP systems and would provide an insight to the dynamic behaviour of lake temperature variation.
