Application of DES Method to the Numerical Study of Shock Oscillations on a Supercritical Airfoil
The periodical shock oscillations phenomenon induced by transonic shock/turbulence boundary layer interaction is a major cause of transonic buffet. Detached Eddy Simulation DES method is applied to study the self-sustained shock oscillations phenomenon of SC (2)-0714 supercritical airfoil in this paper. The periodic shock motion on the upper surface of the airfoil is predicted with the DES method in calculations. The effects of Reynolds number on the shrinkage-reduce frequency of the shock motion, mean shock position and coefficients of fluctuating pressures are also studied in the paper.
