Effect of Water Stress on Leaf Photosynthesis Characteristics and Water Use Efficiency in Jujube in Tarim Basin
The current study investigated the effect of water stress on photosynthesis characteristics and water use efficiency of Jujube in extreme arid condition, a field study was conducted in the drip irrigated Jujube in Xingfucheng farm, South Xingjiang China. Four water supply treatments consisted of (Wl) moderate water stress at 260 m3/667m2, (W2) light water stress at 320 m3/667m (W3) appropriate water at 380 m3/667m2, and (W4) sufficient water at 440m3/667m2. A portable LI-6400 photosynthesis system was used to determine Pn, Tr, Gs, Ci, Ta, Ca, RH, PAR and Jujube leaf WUE at August 8, 2010. PAR, RH, Ta and Ca differed significantly amongst four water treatments at 0.01 level; Pn differed significantly amongst four water treatments at 0.5 level, whereas there was no difference in Tr. Compared with W3, the WUE of Wl, W2 and W4 differed significantly, the WUE of W2 treatment increased 2.65%, whereas Wl and W4 treatments decreased 14.90 and 18.20% respectively. The result indicated that Jujube can adapt to extreme arid condition, and the proper water amount of drip irrigation was about 320m3/667m2.
