Effect of temperature and electrode spacing on performance of microbial fuel cell

Microbial fuel cell (MFC), which can directly generate electricity from biodegradable, has rapidly gained increasing research attention. Power density, electrode potential and internal resistance in two chambers microbial fuel cells were examined as a function of temperature and electrode spacing. The maxmium power density of 7.89 W/m3 was achieved at the temperature of 37 °C, with a value of 199 % higher than that obtained at 10 V (2.64 W/m3) and 24 % higher than that at 30 ° C (6.34 W/m3). And power density corresponded to the internal resistance of MFC system at different temperature. The maximum power density of 4.70 W/m was obtained at the distance between the anode electrode and cathode electrode in the range of 2.5 cm.
