Terrestrial Mobile Networks for Air-to-Ground Communications of the General Aviation
General Aviation (GA) is destined to be an active area compared with airline scheduled civil aviation. The figures with much more aircrafts, pilots and private airports than airline aviation can be statistically obtained in a lot of countries, such as USA, UK. etc. In China, from 2011, the restriction of low attitude airspace is broken and there is a gigantic plan for developing the lower airspace general aviation industry. In this paper, the terrestrial mobile networks for Air-to-Ground (A/G) communications of the general aviation named as General Aviation Mobile communications systems (GAMobile) is proposed and evaluated. Different to the datalinks for airline aviation, GAMobile can directly make use of the terrestrial mobile system infrastructure to provide the broadband datalink service to GA aircraft With this datalink, the Air Traffic Control (ATC), Air Traffic Management (ATM), the traffic of Air Operation Center (AOC) and Aircraft Passenger Communications (APC) can be delivered. Specifically, the cell and system structure, network protocol and key technologies are clarified.
