Newly developed materials and devices for LCDs

Various newly developed devices and materials have been reviewed, which have the advantage of having a higher light extraction, an improved color gamut, and a better contrast ratio for LCDs. The newly synthesized nitride phosphors have achieved enhanced luminescence efficiencies. A novel LED backlight unit with the proposed phosphor sheet that used these red and a green phosphors has a better color uniformity and gamut than the conventional white LEDs. The new formulation of the ACP for LED flip-chip packaging improves both the mechanical and optical durabilities. The addition of a high refractive index powder besides the ACP improves the total luminous flux of the LEDs by 16% compared to the conventional wire bonding method. Super View Resin (SVR?), a transparent elastic resin, improves the LCD visibility. Filling the air gap with a refractive index matching resin resolves the inherent lightreflection problem when using a reinforced cover glass lens. A perfluoropolyether with an alkoxysilane group deposited on an antireflection film has a good antifouling property.
