Microlens array with controllable lens shape for integral imaging display
Integral imaging uses microlens array both in capture and display stage to optically reconstruct threedimensional images. As an optical device, the pixel pitch, focal length, lens shape, and lens arrangement of the microlens array play crucial roles on the perceived image quality of integral imaging. In this paper, we use a self-assembling technology to fabricate microlens array. The lens shape is controlled by the surface tension of liquid polymer, and thus arbitrary lens shape, such as circle, square, hexagon, polygon etc, and arbitrary microlens array arrangement can be fabricated. To find the optimized lens shape for an integral imaging display, we set-up a three-dimensional display system using the microlens arrays fabricated with different shapes and arrangements. Based on this display system, the three-dimensional image quality as a function of lens shape is discussed.
