PPLN chips for watt level low-cost efficient green lasers
In this paper, over 1.1 W continuous-wave (CW) linearly polarized green laser was achieved via a MgO doped periodically poled lithium niobate (MgO:PPLN) chip with an optical-to-optical efficiency of 37.3%. The electrical-to-optical efficiency was more than 19%. The temperature tolerance of the 1-mm-long PPMgLN was more than 30 ° C with 15% drop of output power. By using MgO:PPLN chip, compact green laser as small as 1.6 cm3 can be achieved. The excellent performances of the MgO:PPLN based lasers, including high efficiency, high power, compact size, large temperature tolerance and low cost, are very attractive for laser display applications. It is expected that the performance of the green lasers can be improved by optimizing cavity and the length of MgO:PPLN.
