Design Challenge of 1440-channel TFT Source Driver for Smart Phones, using Data Compression for Embedded Display Memory
This paper describes a single chip of 1440-channel TFT source driver with integrated MIPI 1 & MDDI 2 high-speed interface, power management, TCON, and gate driver controller with embedded display memory using memory data compression. Dual-channel MIPI and MDDI interfaces are selectable, with speed up to 600Mbps per channel. Data compression was used to reduce embedded memory size by more than half. Separate RGB gamma and full power management are integrated into a slim die of 22350um x 1450um with 15um staggered pads using 0.13u EHV wafer technology for 6V source drive and 32Vp-p gate drive.
