Preparation and characterization of electronic ink for dual particles electrophoretic display

The preparation of inorganic-organic black/white electrophoretic particles for electronic ink is reported. The white particle was prepared by grafting poly(lauryl methacrylate) on the surface of titanium dioxide, while the black particle was prepared by non-covalent modification of carbon black with a copolymer (poly(lauryl methacrylate)-co-poly(2(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate)). With the aid of a charge control agent, the modified white and black particles were negatively and positively charged, respectively. The stable suspension can be driven in the EPD cell under a low DC field of 0.075V/μm.
