Chroma Uniformity Measurement for LED Panel using CCD Camera
Though LED panel has been vigorously improved during the past two decades, industrial community doesnt reach a universal agreement on criterion about objectively evaluating the visual effects of an LED panel, such as maximal contrast ratio, maximal brightness, etc. Among the factors affecting displaying quality of an LED panel, uniformities including chroma and brightness uniformity are the most important ones. However, even though only a few local areas of an LED panel have been taken into account, redundant manual operation and subjective judgment are usually required when exploiting the current measurement of uniformity. Aiming at measuring the chroma uniformity objectively, quickly and globally, a method consisting of algorithms of LED dots segmentation, characterization and chroma uniformity calculation is proposed in this paper. We revise the top-hat transformation to achieve background prediction based LED dots segmentation. On the basis of color blending theory, we further characterize each LED dot as a color uniformed dot by blending the color of all the pixels representing it. Additionally, by converting the RGB color space to the perceptual uniformed CIE L*U*V* color space, the (u*, v*) coordinates of LED dots are utilized to fit Gaussian curve. The standard deviation and mean value of the curve are used to represent the chroma distance. These three parts introduced are the kernel of this measurement method. Experiment result indicates that this method is attractive due to the excellent performance and the reduction of manual operation.
