New Organoboron-based Host Material for Blue-Light-Emitting Phosphorescent Organic Electroluminescent Devices

A novel host material 3,6-bis(dimesitylboryl)-9phenyl-9H-carbazole (BDBPC), containing carbazole and organoboron moieties for blue phosphorescent organic light-emitting devices was synthesized. The optical, electrochemical and thermal properties of this novel crabazole have been characterized. The incorporation of the dimesitylboryl moiety is intended to provide electron-transport properties and also to prevent ready crystallization of carbazole units by its nonplanar molecular structure. The compound exhibits a high glass-transition temperature (Tg =160 °C) and a very high triplet energy (ET= 2.91 eV).
