Synthesis and Optical and Electrochemical Properties of Trifluoromethylated Pyrazolic 3,4-b Quinoline Derivatives (CF3-PQs)

A class of Pyrazolic 3, 4-b quinoline derivatives containing CF3 group (CF3-PQs) are synthesized from the reaction of 5-chloro-l-phenyl-3-trifluoromethyl-Lh-pyrazolo-4-formalde hyde with aryl amines in good yields, their photophysical and electrochemical properties are examined. Those compounds show strong photoluminescence, and the maximum emission peaks are located in a region from 450 to 495 nm in solution. Moreover, the quantum yields of CF3-PQs are much higher than those of non-fluorinated CH3-PQs, suggesting that introducing a CF3 group to the backbone of PQs can greatly increase the optical properties. Electrochemically, CF3-PQs illustrate good redox properties. To investigate the potential application of the CF3-PQs derivatives, an OLED device based on 6-fluoro-l-phenyl-3-(trifluoromethyl)-Lh-pyrazolo 3,4-b quinoline has been fabricated, and it shows blue emitting with a chromaticity coordinate of (x= 0.172, y=0.115) and the maximum efficiency of 0.38 cd /A .
