Polymer Bi-layer Gate Dielectric for Flexible Organic Thin Film Transistors

In this work, a type of bi-layer polymer dielectric composed of polyacrylonitrile (PAN) and polystyrene (PS) is proposed for flexible OTFTs. To demonstrate the performance of the bi-layer dielectric material, staggered structure OTFTs with thermal evaporated pentacene as the active layer are fabricated. It can be seen that the surface morphology of PAN/PS bilayer dielectric is much smoother than that of the pure PAN. As a result, the OTFTs based on the PAN/PS bilayer dielectric present higher mobility and higher ON/OFF current ratio. The devices also show excellent switching and bending stability. The experimental results prove that the proposed polymer bi-layer dielectric can be applied in OTFTs for flexible display backplane applications.
