An optimized algorithm for brightness improvement and its application on 32 inch LED backlight TV
With the appearance of local-dimming backlighting technique, it becomes possible to reduce the power consumption and achieve a high static contrast for the LCD panels. An optimized local dimming algorithm is proposed in this paper to improve the brightness when displaying images on a LED backlight TV. Compared with the average algorithm, the optimized algorithm takes both the average value and the maximum value into account. The performance using the proposed algorithm in this work has been simulated using MATLAB software, which was then compared with the performance mainly using the average value algorithm. In the end, the algorithm is applied on a 32 inch LED backlight TV which has been developed before, and some tests have been done on the developed LCD TV to evaluate its working performance.
