Novel broadband and wide-view patterned retarder design for stereoscopic 3D displays
This work proposed a new in-cell broadband wide-view circular polarizer to improve the conventional half wavelength (HW) patterned retarder on the full plane of quarter wavelength (QW) retarder type stereoscopic display, which need only one alignment layer. By the corporation of full plane biaxial quarter wavelength retardation film with Nz=0.5 and uniaxial patterned half wavelength reactive mesogen film. One novel wide-view angle technology for 3D display with glasses was proposed to keep from the crosstalk induced by the light leakage when unwanted orient polarized light pass through the orthogonal polarized glasses. Simulation results showed that the new compensation method successfully reduced the crosstalk for the left eye from 0.25 to less than 0.1, and from 0.42 to less than 0.11 for the right eye at the full polar angle θ=60°. Wide-view circular polarizer 3D display can be achieved.
