Investigation of the Properties of MgCaO as Protective Layer in PDPs
As a result of the expected reduction of sustain voltage, MgCaO mixed material has drawn widespread attention in Plasma Display Panel (PDP) research. In this paper we investigate both the microstructure and Cathode luminescence properties of two types of MgCaO pellets, which are prepared in different conditions. Under high-voltage electron beam excitation, sample # 1 emits 240nm UV radiation and a band of visible light around 410nm, while sample #2 shows only a strong emission band around 380nm and no UV emission. Apparently most of the UV-light is absorbed by high density of F-centers.
