Application of Risk-Based Maintenance Approach in Automated Storage and Retrieval System

Based on introducing the development and implementation of the risk-based maintenance approach, this paper focuses on the risk of automated storage and retrieval system in the operation. The stacker crane is chosen as the research object and a technological framework applying the risk-based maintenance decision-making approach to logistics equipment is proposed. Using the fault tree algorithm, a quantitative analysis of the risk of stacker cranes with comprehensive consideration of reliability and failure consequences is conducted within this frame. Meanwhile, it establishes a maintenance strategy targeting risk as the most important factor in the decision-making, which reduces the operational risk of stacker cranes. The present study indicates that the risk-based maintenance approach is a helpful decision-making tool to optimize maintenance schemes and can be applied to logistics equipment risk management.
