The effect of stoichiometric ratio of curing agent on the mechanical properties of epoxy resins
The modulus of matrix plays an important role in the mechanical properties of carbon fiber/epoxy composites. To observe the influence of type and content of curing agent on the modulus of epoxy, TDE-85 epoxy and two different types of curing agent, DETDA and DDS were used in this experiment. According to a calculation of curing agent, several samples with equivalence ratios of lively hydrogen equivalent and epoxy equivalent weight r as 0.5,0.75,1,1.25 were prepared. The tensile test and dynamic mechanical analyses were carried out. The results displayed that the modulus of TDE-85 was the lowest when ratio of lively hydrogen equivalent weight and epoxy equivalent weight was 1. On basis of the experiment result, the carbon fiber/epoxy composites with different modulus of matrix will be obtained to evaluate the effect of matrix.s modulus on the mechanical properties of the composites.
