Cleaner Production Technologies to Reduce Selenium Environmental Pollution in Electrolytic Manganese Industries
Introduction Chinese electrolytic manganese (Mn) metal (EMM) industry has maintained rapid growth since 2003, and now it is the largest producer, consumer and exporter of EMM in the world. Its production capacity accounted for 98.4% of the total annual world production by the end of 2009, in which it consumes more than 35% of world Se output every year. According to data tested in the soil, plant and water around each EMM plant, and in hair, nail and urine of workers in EMM plants, Se application had caused environmental pollution.
