Role of Structure and Substitution on the Antioxidant Activity of Organoselenium Compounds
Introduction Organoselenium compounds are emerging as new class of antioxidants, with improved free radical scavenging activity as compared to their sulfur analogues. They also act as enzyme mimics, enzyme inhibitors, anti-tumor, anti-infective agents, and immunomodulators (Mugesh et al., 2001). Ebselen, an aromatic selenide, is reported to exhibit a wide range of pharmacological properties.
