Effects of DON, NIV, T-2 Toxin and Selenium on Integrins, Cytoskeleton Proteins of Chondrocytes, and Sulfate Modification of Cartilage Aggrecan

Introduction Kashin-Beck Disease (KBD) is an endemic chronic and unknowingly caused severe progressive osteoarthropathy mainly in China. Clinical symptoms of the disease involve limb joints enlargement, pain and movement restriction. The KBD impacts human health primarily in the Se-deficiency areas from northeast to southwest of China. The characteristic and pathological changes in KBD-infected patients show an over-apoptosis in epiphyseal plate chondrocyle, developmental disorder of secondary ossification endochondrale, and chondrocytes necrosis in the deep layer of articular cartilage. The etiology of KBD is, however, still not clear.
