Evaluation of the Selenium Concentrations in Compound Pig Feeds in Finland
Introduction Complete and complementary pig feeds with selenium (Se) addition have been evaluated by monitoring the feed products during 2003-2008. This evaluation has forced Finland to add Se to both soil and feed to fulfill the needs of the population and livestock to have a healthy nutritional level of Se. Due to the Se fortifications, Finland has the highest Se daily intake among the European countries (<110 d-1), where the corresponding value in the EU countries ranges from 30 to 60 d-1 EFSA, 2006).
