Synthesis of Chlorzoxazone by Selenium-catalyzed Reductive Cyclocarbonylation of 4-Chloro-2-nitrophenol
Introduction Chlorzoxazone, (5-chloro-2-benzoxazolone), is a central relaxant widely used in clinical treatment for lumbago, neuralgia, rheumatic arthritis, soft tissue injury, sprain, and spondylopathy caused muscle spasm. Traditionally, synthesis of chlorzoxazone was achieved in two steps starting from 4-chloro-2-nitrophenol: reduction of the nitro group to amino group, followed by cyclocarbonylation of the 4-chloro-2-ami no phenol intermediate.
