Numerical study and application on technology of slotting and blasting down the roof for handling mined-out areas

Based on comprehensive assessment and stress measurement of mined-out areas of Jinfeng gold mine, the stress distribution and surrounding rock stability are analyzed by theoretical and numerical simulation methods. According to the results, feasibility of the program and the blasting down location of handing mined-out areas are defined. The case study shows that the falling block can effectively become top pick after blasting down the roof, the stress of rock mass at the under-part of mined-out areas is obviously reduced. It can ensure mining safely in the lower middle position. So, it shows that technology of slotting and blasting down the roof is an advanced and cost-effective method for handling the mined-out areas and should be widely applied.
