Structure Determination of Acyclovir Cocrystals by Powder X-Ray Diffraction

Purpose: To design and prepare cocrystals of acyclovir using crystal engineering approaches, with the ultimate objective of improving the physical properties of acyclovir. Materials and Methods: Various cocrystal formers including carboxylic acid, performed in order to obtain acyclovir cocrystals by cogrinding and slow evaporation methods. The potential cocrystalline phase was characterized by PXRD techniques. The acyclovirglutaric acid (hereafter ACV-GLU cocrystal) cocrystal structure and acyclovir-gentisic acid (hereafter ACV-GEN cocrystal) cocrystal structure were determined from powder X-ray diffraction data. Results: The ACV-GLU cocrystals were obtained by liquid-assisted cogrinding methods. The ACV-GEN cocrystals were obtained by slow evaporation. Conclusions: The cocrystal structures were determined by powder X-ray diffraction analysis.
